Close up with a Shark

We had a close up look at a small dogfish shark today and nearly everyone had a touch!!

Here are some stories we wrote about this experience.

This morning Mrs Smith showed us a baby shark. It felt like sandpaper.
And it has a lot of baby teeth. It was grey on the top and white on the bottom.

Percussion lesson with Samuel

Every second Wednesday Room One gets to learn percussion.
Samuel visits Clive Kids to help us hear and feel the Beat.
It sounded .. Surprisingly good ... for beginners!

Here we all are ... The Room One Kids

It was a really hot day up in the 30's so we headed for some shade.
We couldn't persuade Sonny to join in the class photo
but you may catch him in later posts hopefully.

Maths: Tally Marking

Here are some of the busy Room 1 children asking questions and using tally marks to record the answers. We were finding out how many people in room 1 had the following in their lunchboxes.
Sandwiches, fruit, chippies, yoghurt, popcorn.
It was great to see that most children had sandwiches and fruit!!

We are going to put this information into a chart form like below to show our findings.

Week 2 Swimming

We have had Chris from NZ Swimming come to teach us swimming and survival skills.
One thing she did was to put us in life jackets then we had to jump in a deeper part of the pool to experience how the life jackets work keeping us afloat.
Thank you Chris.

And here is our very happy Birthday Boy, Kupa checking his jacket.

Special Room 1 Kids

We are a wonderful class of Year Two children.
There are 11 boys and 7 girls in our class.
Our Teacher's name is Mrs Smith and we also have 3 Teachers Aides at various times in the day: Mrs Looj, Marianne and Joanna.
We all have different strengths, we all learn at different rates and we all have different needs and that is what makes us SPECIAL!!

Our first poem this year reads:
I am special
and you are too
There's one of me
and there's one of you.
